Object Recipes

At Plate Talks, in keeping with our plate designs, we have begun a new series of stories called 'Object Recipes' that are designed to explore and celebrate the object culture in cooking, eating and sharing food. We are asking a wide selection of people to take a photo of, and describe, their favourite piece of kitchen or dining apparatus and then provide a recipe that utilises it. The object chosen might be something as essential as a tin opener, used for a delicious signature chilli-con-carne. Or it might be a decorative and sentimental item like a plate passed down from a favourite relative on which you serve a crumbly slice of cake.

Initially, we intend to show the images and recipes on the Plates Talks website as individual stories and promote them on Instagram. As we slowly accumulate these stories we will archive them, and we hope to make a further body of work that may manifest itself as either an exhibition, publication, or both! Hopefully, this collection of stories will prove to be an interesting insight into the language of kitchen objects and our often emotional relationships to them, as well as offering our followers new recipes and culinary inspirations. If you would like to take part, please do get in touch!
